Brand your blog using Favicons

Posted 29th April 2008 | 10 Comments

With over 175,000 blogs created everyday you need to do something to stand out from the rest. One great way to do this is to add a favicon in your blog. If you are not aware of what a favicon is its a small 16 x16 image that you can use beside url's , RSS feeds etc. They have the .ico extension and if I remember correctly you need to add some special add-on is photo shop if you are trying to create one using photo shop.

Favicon

Its harder to remember the name or the url of a website , but its not that hard to remember a image right ? Well that exactly what favicon offers you , a simple way for your readers to remember your blog or website. Lets say a reader reads one of your articles in digg or stumblupon. And if another article of yours got through to digg what are the chances of the reader remembering your website name ? You have to agree that its very slim chance. But if your using a nice catchy favicon chances of a reader remembering your site is much greater. Its exactly the reason why people are trying hard to get a custom header design , they all want people to remember their site.

if you know a bit of PHP and comfortable with modifying your theme this is not a very hard thing to do.But if your not a very tech savvy user like me you can use this free plugin from MaxBlogPress to add a favicon to your blog. They have a very clear description of why it's important to use the plug-in the numerous advantages of using it , so why don't you head over there and give it a try , since its free you have nothing to lose as well.

You left another gem in my inbox, where I subscribed to your blog. I am always amazed where Bloggers, like you, come up with new information I haven’t heard of before. When I look for my favorites on explorer I readily identify sites by their “favicon” but never thought about using it in my
    favor.
