Turn your Facebook friends into readers of your blog

Posted 13th May 2008 | Comments

Without a doubt Facebook is one of the most popular social networking sites in the world,And by spending two minutes of your time you can turn them into readers of your blog posts. I'm sure your getting thousands of invitations to add lots of different applications to your Facebook profile , but you might not be fully utilizing the power of one application that is there by default. The "Notes" application is there by default and once you add a note your friends see it in their home page.

The great thing is that Facebook lets you import posts from your blog as notes. All you need is a valid RSS feed.Go to applications and click on the "Notes" application. Then click the MyNotes Tab.

Facebook Notes

In the Tab you will find a section called Note Settings.Under that section theres a link called Import a blog.Once you click on that you will be presented with a screen like below, enter the RSS feed of your blog in to it and now every time you publish a post all your friends will see it in their home page.

Adding a RSS feed

I guess its obvious that for this to work your friends needs to have the "Notes" application in their profile. It comes by default so chances are most of them do have it installed. This is a nice easy way to get more exposure for your blog posts in about two minutes :) .

  • This is a good idea. I will probably freak out most of my friends with seo talk however :D
  • Glad you guys found it interesting :)
  • I'll go with seo blog. None of my friends wouldt ever read the posts. Maybe from my personale blog, but not fromBlogsmarter.dk
  • I have been reading posts from friends' blogs within facebook but it's only now that i have learned the procedure. i think i'm gonna try this one myself and see what happens. thanks!
  • Thank you for this tip ! :)
I was doing it though another application on Facebook, but my contacts were saying it was making them join it(the app) to be able look at my blog posts, and it was putting them off :(
Hopefully this is a better way!
    Cheers!
  • @Jules,
Since your friends don't have to join anything to get these updates you have a fair chance with this method , and notes comes by default with Facebook as well :)

I’ve developed blogging application for Facebook:

    http://www.facebook.com/apps/application.php?id...

It allows you to import posts from external blogs and display them at your profile (both profile box and profile tab are supported).

I think this application may be useful when you’re not satisfied with Notes.
  • @DEkart,
Thanks for sharing , I will check it out :)
  • Hi! Very nice ideas, and I agree with Jules.
