In my last post I talked about how a simple tweak can reduce your bounce rate in two minutes. I added few more suggestion and asked readers to come up with there ideas. Eranda at Antharjalaya commented and suggested that I add a tag cloud and after adding it I got some nice stumble traffic to test and compare my results , and from the initial results it was a success. I know that two days of testing is not a good way to come to a conclusion but the early signs are very positive.The tag cloud I added was not the default WordPress tag cloud but the nice looking flash tag cloud provided by WP-Cumulus plug in. Its not that hard to see why it was successful because the tag cloud looks very..... click-able
. I added it in single page view and just after the post so it has a fair chance of getting noticed.
Installing and configuring
Installing is just like any other WordPress plug-in , you upload the necessary files to your plug-in's folder and go activate the plug-in in the plug-in list. What makes this plug-in stand out from the rest is the ability to configure it to your exact requirements.
- Three ways to display the cloud - You can display the tag cloud in three ways. You can add it as a widget ( easiest option but might not look good in a three column theme ) , you can create a page and add a tag or you can insert the PHP function that display the tag cloud anywhere in your theme.
- You can specify the height , width , background color , text color and rotation speed.
- You can also specify which tags include or exclude. This is very useful if you do a miscellaneous post here and there that is not really related to the your blogs niche.
Drawbacks
- It generates a list of dofollow links to tag pages. If you have lots of tags this means lots of links in a single page which some search engines might not handle.
If you are not a WordPress user its not all doom and gloom for you. The FAQ page for the plug-in at WordPress have some nice links on how to add this in blogspot , Drupal , Typepad etc. If you are already using a tag cloud this is definitely a alternative that you should try out. Now go click on those tags

Actually, the plugin should generate valid xhtml code. It uses SWFObject to embed the Flash for exactly that reason
.
@weef,
Yep you are right , that plug-in wasn’t the cause for XHTML errors. Sorry about that I modified the post
Nishada, I knew about this tag cloud. but never used it. I will try to implement it to decrease the bounce rate.
