TwitPub – get paid for your tweets

Posted 15th April 2009 | 4 Comments

TwitPub is a new service that is launched today where you can get paid for your tweets. With the growth of Twitter lots of services are coming up to supplement Twitter and the difference with TwitPub is you can get paid for it :) . In most other services you need to have a lot of followers to get accepted to there program but no so with TwitPub , As far as I can tell anyone can register for the service for free and get paid for there Tweets. So lets take look at the service and how you can earn money from your tweets.

How the system works

The system is based upon the basic idea of private twitter accounts. If someone's  Twitter account is private and you want to follow him, that person has to approve you for you to get the tweets. So if you are a publisher you need to create a private Twitter account ( or make your existing one private ) and list it in the TwitPub market place. You need to specify how much you charge for a month as well and you will get 80% of the revenue. For example if you charge 2.50$ per month you will get 2$ every time someone decides to pay to follow your updates.

Advantage for Publishers

  • The obvious advantage is that you will get paid for your Tweets. But you should be producing enough quality tweets so people are willing to pay to follow you.
  • Most of the process is automated by TwitPub so you don't have to go searching for followers , they will come to you if the content is good enough.
  • There is a thirty day trial period for subscribers , that means subscribers can follow you and cancel before a 30 days and they want be billed for it. This may look like a disadvantage for some , but this trial period is likely to get you more followers ( its up to you to keep them :) )
  • There is a rating system , so if you produce quality content your followers will rate you highly and you can get more followers.

Advantage for Subscribers

  • You will be getting quality tweets , Since your paying for it I doubt you will get tweets like "Good Morning" , "Going to sleep now" and "On my way to xxxx"
  • You get a thirty day trial period , if you are not satisfied with the tweets you can cancel you subscription and you want be billed.
  • Market place lets you easily find people in your specific niches.

Conclusion

The usefulness of the service depends upon the way you use Twitter. There are already people who are charging for there tweets ( eg - Forex traders , Stock traders ) so for people like them TwitPub could be a good place to promote there services. I wouldn't mind paying to follow a successful Forex trader if he's giving enough updates about the trades :) .

    Can’t see this working for JohnChow or Shoemoney – maybe NYT or similar.

    @Robert,
    Yep , it would be kind of hard for John and Shoe , But for stock and Forex updates this could be great , Top forex brokers are already have services like these.

  3. Ryan commented:

    I guess twitpub will be more for content that are value for money like what u say forex n stock tips…also i think sports betting or casino tips might be able to sell….but i thought johnchow or shoemoney might be able to sell their expertise over twitter, but well not so sure bout that

    @Ryan,
    yes sports betting is another good area where you might consider paying to follow someone , JohnChow mostly uses his twitter followers for traffic and higher the followers higher the traffic so I don’t think John will do paid tweets ;)
