update - you can download a comparison chart for free in the downloads section.
So which is the best? Since I have tried both I think I'm in a good position to decide which is the best. If you are just blogging in your leisure time and your not worried about your traffic and stuff then any of the two is fine, But if your looking to build readers and add functionality to your blog in various ways then I have to say Wordpress is far superior to Blogger. You can find different views and endless debates about this topic in the web but it finally comes down to the purpose of your blog.If its making money online then its self hosted Wordpress for sure.Below are few of the reasons why I'm saying Wordpress is better than Blogger.
- In Wordpress you get thousands of themes to choose from. While in Blogger your choice is limited. In one of my previous posts I mentioned how a simple change of theme increase my page views dramatically.I wouldn't be able to do that if I was using Blogger. And if that isn't enough there are contests where you can win professional looking Wordpress themes, I haven't seeing a contest where you can win a Blogger theme.
- There are thousands of plug ins available in Wordpress where you can add functionality to your blog. For example plug ins like Recent comments, Popular posts , Recent posts are available where you can add them with few simple clicks. You can't do that in Blogger.
- In Wordpress you have the time stamp option where you can write a post now and set the time stamp to a future date so the post will get published on the day you specified. This is especially useful when you know you cant blog for a while but want to keep the update frequency of the blog. Writing four for five articles in two or three days and waiting a week to write the next one is bad for your readers.
Only good thing I can think of Blogger is its very easy to integrate ad sense ads. But you can do it just as easily with Wordpress if you add a plug in like Adsense Deluxe, and it provides you better management of your ads as well. So if you are just starting out blogging and if you have chosen Blogger I hope you read this and change to Wordpress
. All you bloggers using Blogger what do you have to say
?
Update : Blogger is now providing the ability to time stamp your posts , so now you can write posts and publish them automatically in a future date using blogger as well. Although free Wordpress blogs do provide support for some plug-ins to experience the true power of Wordpress you need a self hosted Wordpress blog.Web hosting is around 6$/month and if you cant earn more than 6$ a month you shouldn't be trying to make money online.

Nice!
I also did sort of a ‘Inside Story’ on this. Check this, if you’re interested.
Nice comparison. I stumbled you.
Even though I use a wordpress blog, I kind of like blogger better.
The simple reason is blogger allows you to fiddle around with the html code while the free version of wordpress doesn’t.
And I don’t agree with your pluggin argument about blogger. There are heaps of third party widgets that can be included in blogger.
The only thing I see good in wordpress is that it has a pretty simple way of leaving a comment. Most people still don’t know how to leave a comment in Blogspot blogs, and the tiny space they allow to type your comment is kind of demoralizing.
Nadz,
checked out the post , nice one.
Jo,
Thanx for the stumble
Me,
what you say is true , But for the average guy who doesn’t have technical knowledge of how to fiddle with HTML wordpress is far better.
I haven’t used blogger, but after reading a few comparisons, such as yours, I decided to go with wordpress. However, if you are using a wordpress.com hosted blog like me, and not using worpress software on your own server, using adsense adds is against there terms of service, and can result in your blog being deleted.
May I just clarify the difference between the two types of Wordpress blog being discussed? At Wordpress.com you are able to create a free blog which is hosted there, but as such has limitations.
At Wordpress.org you download Wordpress for upload and installation to your own server. Many hosting companies’ Control Panel provides Fantastico, which effects the installation automatically for you — brilliant!
Self-hosted Wordpress is an excellent blog – it’s infinitely customisable, and because it’s so popular with programmers, there are always new plugins, widgets, and clever little scripts sprouting up everywhere, which makes it a lot of fun, as well as exceptionally versatile.
An earlier comment above appears to make a comparison between Wordpress plug-ins and Blogger widgets, which are two entirely different things, so I’m not too sure what’s going on there;-D
dgarman I think the problem is wordpress doesn’t allow java scripts.you can get more information here. I read the policy and here’s something I found.
Affiliate marketing blogs: Blogs with the primary purpose of driving traffic to affiliate programs and get-rich-quick schemes (”Make six figures from home!!”, “20 easy steps to top profits!!”, etc). To be clear, examples like people writing original book or movie reviews and linking them to Amazon, or people linking to their own products on Etsy do NOT fall into this category.
So if your having a blog with original content and not a get rich quick scheme I think you should be ok.
Now this post was right along my tech wavelength. I could understand what you were talking about.
I didn’t know there were that many themes to choose from. Must have a look again.
I valued this tip “you can write a post now and set the time stamp to a future date so the post…….”
Thanks for the post.
Blogger.com VS wordpress.com, blogger is better since it allows us to monetize our websites.
Blogger.com VS WordPress blog platform, it depends.
Blogger is limited, we can’t even edit comments, but it’s beauty lies in its simplicity. We can blog away and not worry about a multitude of maintenance stuff as blogger almost does everything for us except write content. If we also have a basic knowledge of HTML and CSS, we can tweak the template to suit our needs.
There is also a ready-made network waiting as soon as we register a blog. We have made blogspot blogs that already received a few wayward visitors a day after WITHOUT us doing any promotion or marketing.
WordPress the blog platform is best if we want total control of our blogs. And total control means there’s always something to be done in order to make our blogs competitive.
Actually, we can’t compare Blogger.com with WordPress the blog platform because they are slightly different animals. Blogger is a FREE blogging service while WordPress is a blog script.
We can instead compare WordPress to Joomla or Drupal.
Thanks.
For me, hands down is wordpress!!!

This was a great review! I personally knew nothing about hosted solutions with blogger or wordpress. I really like how you also add updates that must provide your readers with great respect for the credibility of your written content!
