DISQUS – easily manage your comments

Posted 20th May 2009 | Comments

DISQUS is an comment management system for your blog that makes very easy to manage your comments while providing more exposure for your comments and blog. After doing some search and checking out some blog posts about blog commenting I decided to go with DISQUS, because it provides all the functionality I needed to manage my blog comments. There are Wordpress plug-ins out there that offers some features of DISQUS but to achieve all the functionality provided by DISQUS you need to add few plug-ins. Although not relevant to this blog another big advantage of DISQUS is that it can be integrated into Wordpress blogs as well , if the blog owner haven't changes the necessary setting commenting on blogspot blogs can becomes cumbersome so for blogspot blog owners this could be a very handy system to have. Lets take a look at some features that made me choose DISQUS as my comment management system.

Advantage for web masters

  • Threaded comments with a reply button - If you have being visiting this blog for a while you must have noticed I reply to comments using @Ann etc , this makes it hard to follow the conversation especially if there were few comments between the original comment. With DISQUS you can use the reply button at the end of the comment and you reply will show as a thread under the comment making it much more meaningful and much more easier to follow the conversation.
  • Reply to comments from the Dashboard - You don't need to visit the website or the post to reply to the comment , you can do it by clicking the add reply link in the DISQUS section in your Wordpress dashboard.
  • Ability to comment using Twitter Id, Facebook Id - If you are promoting your blog posts via Twitter and Facebook ( You really should do this :) ) then DISQUS allows them to comment using there Twitter id and Facebook Id. This gives there profiles more exposure making them more likely to make a comment.
  • Ability to display social media reaction to your blog post - You can display the reaction your post got on Twitter , FriendFeed and lots of other services.

Above are the reasons I choose DISQUS as my comment management system. But there are many advantages for being a DISQUS member , especially if you are commenting a lot on DISQUS enabled blogs. In a future post I will show advantages normal visitors can get by joining DISQUS.

  • I have been testing it Disqus out for an hour or so and I will be implementing it on my own blog. I really like the voting system and the community around it.
  • Yep , DISQUS is a great commenting system and I really likes the part where it shows the Tweets etc
  • The profiles that commenter create in DISQUS are shared across other blogs using the system. So commenter will be recognized by DISQUS without having to create whole new profile and they”ll have the same avatar and identity.
  • I have been blogging for more than three years now and there have been a lot of things that have evolved. One new area is the advancement in blog comment systems.
  • Disqus allows you to administer comments on multiple blogs from a single dashboard.Disqus is great commenting plug-in..

  • One of the main advantages Disqus for me is; it has is the ability for users to login with Facebook Connect where the comments also appear in the commentators newsfeed, which has the capacity to go viral.
  • Very good point Hostelio , another reason to use DISQUS I guess
  • Correct, joining with Disqus would have many advantages instead of using other comments tools.
  • Nice post. Im actually thinking about putting disqus on my own blog
  • nice post, thanks for sharing
  • I had try Intense Debate before, and I doesn't like it very much, may be I will try to use Disqus,I'd like to replace my current setup with something much simpler, and guests post simpler too.
  • I have heard good things about Intense Debate too , but since DISQUS works fine I didn't want to change it. With DISQUS unregistered users also can comment without a problem so you wouldn't have to worry about that.
  • Nishadha, thanks for you tips.yes, i will give up the Intense Debate and install DisQus.

Twitter had created a big impact to the world wide web, and i has been talked of the town, you would often hear how many followers do you have? if you had a problem in getting followers well worry no more, recently i had used a software named Hummingbird well i used it to get more followers and it works pretty smooth. I had visited this site http://hummingbirdtool.com/ at first i thought it was just a scam but now i'm thankful for hummingbird had given me a chance to get new customers, really amazing.
