]]> I rank for few keywords related to various online things related to Sri Lanka. So everyday I get few mails inquiring about various things. I don't respond to most of the for various reasons. Since the number of emails are growing I decided to write this post to discuss why I will never reply to some of your mails and also to show how to write an email asking for help. Although this is mostly based on emails I receive, you can apply these things whenever you are mailing someone. Some of these things are so basic, it is very easy to rectify them. And following these steps will significantly increase your chances of getting a response from me.

Above two are some of the mails I get through my contact form. There is no greeting, doesn't ask a specific question, don't have a name so I don't know who I'm dealing with. I have a very detailed contact form to filter out these sort of messages, but they still get through. If you can't follow some simple question in a contact form you will never be earning anything online.

These are bit better than the previous ones, but still they are not asking a specific question. I can't individually mail everyone the whole process of finding data entry jobs. Similarly I can't teach someone how to make money online from one simple mail reply. I have links to few of my blog posts stored as a note, and with most of these types of mails I just reply with the link.

These are the kind of email that make me feel good about writing this blog. Someone has read my article and acted upon it. These are action takers and totally worth my time to help out. Don't get me wrong, I'm writing this blog to make money online. But I am more than willing to help anyone that is willing to take action. Not only do I reply to these mails I make sure to send some additional resources help out more.

How to Write an Email Asking for Help

I hope the examples above help you get an understand on how to write an email. Below are some of the key points you should remember

  • Add a Greeting - A simple Hello makes your look courteous and significantly improve our chances of getting a reply
  • Address by Name - This makes it more personal and shows the reader you spend some time to find out the author
  • Mention an Article or Post - Show that you have actually read something before asking the question
  • Get to the Point - People are busy, and if you write a long email without getting to the point you are less likely to get a reply
  • Be Specific - A specific question is more likely to get an answer instead of something general like "How to make money blogging"

If you have sent me an email and never got a response it is most probably because one of the reasons above. If not do send me an email again, because I just might have missed your mail. Hope these tips will help you to write better concise emails in the future.

In a country like Sri Lanka where it is hard enough explaining what a software engineer does, it is very tricky to explain Internet marketing specialist designation. Many have no idea what that means, and some get it after mentioning that it is similar to Microsoft Visio. The next question is what I do in the company. ]]> It has being a while since I have put up a post so I thought of adding a post so my readers know that I'm alive. My online income is steadily growing and Adsense and affiliate earnings are increasing all the time. There have being many who have asked for advice and I have advised quite a few on how to make money online. But I only see two people who are actually making some effort. Way back in 2007 when I first started blogging I only made 3$ from Adsense in the first month. That wasn't enough even to cover the blog hosting costs, it was discouraging and very tempting to give up, but I am glad that I stuck with it and now I'm earning a decent income from various sources. Next is not a post but a blogging test to test your knowledge about blogging. You need to have a very good knowledge of blogging and things realted to make money from blogging to get a decent score from the test. So why don't you take the pro blogging test .

First great post is by Lyndi from Nice2All who has a very simple tutorial on how to add social button in WordPress. I know there are many plug ins that does this but I wanted them to be just the way I want. All the code is provided as well so it is pretty easy to get this up and running. You can see test them out below ;)

The next post is from Andy Beard and he shows why blogspot blogs are not that good for SEO. Although this blog is powered by WordPress I do have several blogspot blogs so I found this very useful. If you are an owner of an blogspot blog this is a worthy read.

The next post is by Daniel Scocco of Daily Blog Tips. He has a great post about the recent changes announced by Google about how it handles nofollow in web pages. Make sure to visit the links given in the post to learn more about page rank sculpting and why you should use iframe of javascript based comment system. Even without the new way of handling nofollow I think DISQUS is a great way to handle your comments.

Finally I'll point you to an interview I did with Toan of Clickkt dot com. There I answer some questions about internet marketing and blogging. He has some nice series of interviews going on at the moment. Reading others experiences is a great way to learn so you might be interested in visiting his blog and reading the interviews.

At Pro Blog Design Alex Denning talks about 10 ways to speed up your WordPress blog. Some interesting methods to stop hot linking and spammers accessing your site are discussed there. These tiny tweaks add up so be sure to keep your blog optimized.

Web Design Booth has a nice article about 10 WordPress plug ins to increase your search engine rankings. I learned about how self pings can hurt your blog and few additional plug ins that help you optimize images etc. Definitely worth a read.

PR 2.0 has a great article about evolvment of Twitter and has some great statistic on consumer decison made on Twitter. Looks like more and more people are searching on Twitter before they make there purchase decision. Another reason to do key word healthy tweets :) .

The bad blogger has a nice article called how to increase your readership by changing fonts. It really made me thing about the fonts I'm using in my blog. I changed the font color  bit and it really did look much improved. These changes that may look simple will lead to the ultimate success of your blog so ignore them at your peril.
