If you’ve tried to edit the lens you might have noticed that there really isn’t any guideline, just a reference to the Squidoo policies and why you should abide them. First of all I have to mention that I create Squidoo lenses rarely these days. I find it much more profitable to write content for my own site and make money through them. Plus they locked my most popular lens about increasing Twitter followers with a very vague reason. But I have mentioned Squidoo as a way to make money online so I thought it’s best to write a post about how to make money from Squidoo lenses.
The main reason I started building Squidoo lenses it to get some back links to my blogs and niche sites. Squidoo lenses tend to rank very well in Google and they can bring lots of indirect traffic to your blog. However the links are no follow so you wont get a boost in search engine rankings. But any good SEO will tell you that links are not only about rankings. But lets focus on how to make money with them.
Different Ways to Make Money from Squidoo Lenses
Now there are quite a few ways to make money from Squidoo lenses. I’ll start from the most profitable methods and work my way down.
- Adding Affiliate links – This is probably the most profitable way to make money from Squidoo. My most popular lens was about increasing Twitter followers and I promoted TweetAdder via it. When it was ranking well I made about $800 from that lens alone. So in my opinion this is the most profitable way to use Squidoo.
- Using Squidoo Earning Modules – Squidoo has few modules which you can use to make money from a lens. Amazon module, Amazon recommendation module, eBay module and CafePress modules are some of the module available to make money from the lenses. It’s worth noting that you don’t need to be a member of these services to make money.
- Squidoo Payouts – As long as you’re lenses are getting some decent traffic Squidoo will pay you percentage of their advertisement income. The first 2000 lenses gets the most money and next tier lenses gets a less amount etc. There is an internal algorithm that ranks lenses but in general more traffic you have higher your lens rank will be. Squidoo payouts wont make you rich but it’s nice additional income.
Should I Use Squidoo to Make Money ?
Soon as Squidoo started locking lenses for vague reasons I realized the error of hosting my content on a third party site. Since then I only add content on my own blogs or as guest posts. However if you think you don’t have the time to maintain a blog but still want to make a decent income by writing content then Squidoo just might be the thing for you.
Also it can be a great place to write about one off topics. For example I mostly write about digital marketing in my blogs. But when I come across a great book I might want to write a review about that book. It’s not wise to have a book review site just for that one off review. Squidoo is a perfect match for such scenarios.
Can I Make Money With Squidoo?
As with most services to see some results you have persevere and be consistent. Treat Squidoo lenses similar to how you treat your blogs posts. Do some keyword research and build some back links to make it go up in the rankings. Here are some resources to help earn more with Squidoo.
- A detailed article covering keyword research and other factors ( ironically it’s a Hubpage )
- Some details about the tier system in Squidoo and how much money for each tier
I sincerely hope this article will help you make money from Squidoo lenses. But I must warn you that hosting your content on a third party site is always a risk. So make sure to add your best content on your own blog and use Squidoo to supplement that.

Squidoo is another great service that I came across when following Thirty Day Challenge and I think used properly it has potential to bring you some great traffic and you can make some money through it as well.Squidoo is all about creating lenses , lens is a single web page where you can share your knowledge about anything under the sun. Like most things in the Internet you need some dedication to be successful at creating lenses and making money. Creating a lense is very easy and you are guided throughout the whole process. Most traffic guru’s recommend this so there must be something good about the service and also I have notices that Squidoo pages tent to get indexed quickly by Google and carries some Google juice. Well here’s my first Squidoo page , Nishadha , as you have guessed its about myself and of course some promotion for my blog 🙂 , visit it and let me know if you liked it in the comments section.
