“I was thinking, when will we have a “.COM BOOM” or a “ONLINE UPRISE” in Sri lanka. I know we have the most renowned developers here. But, why are we so low in online business or web market. I don’t know whether you guys felt this, but a key point of a moving web market is having moving Blogs. Indi has done it. Guys like us have to add more frequency to the BUZZ . Although we are heading in the write direction I think we have a long way to go before we see a .COM boom.I guess there are thousands of reasons but here are few I think is very important.
- For me the the biggest drawback is the lack of proper infrastructure , Internet is still a distant dream for many people and until we got that right its hard to see a .COM boom coming
- Only a fraction of the online users in Sri Lanka have a blog , I don’t have any official record but I doubt we even have 1000 Sri Lanka bloggers.
- Out of the fraction few bloggers think of their blog as a business model and many are of the belief you have to write about making money online to make money online.
- Very few companies use the web as a mean of advertising
- Very few bloggers are aware of money making opportunities and the ones who do try to make money give up when they don’t see the returns quickly enough.
- General public is still not in the habit of buying things online and I think its safe to say that they are reluctant to buy things online because of security reasons.
Well thats all that I can think of at the moment, but I suppose there are a lot more.As always open for comments
